Multitasking is often looked at as a necessity in today’s distracted and fast-moving world. Many job descriptions explicitly state the importance of multitasking as an important trait for a candidate. However, research shows that it is next to impossible to perform at their highest possible level when they are trying to multitask.
How can we practice a more focused approach to getting projects done? What would you add to the list?
- Find a quiet, undisturbed space in your office when you need to use full concentration.
- Get up and move for 10-15 minutes.
- When trying to focus, put your cell phone in a drawer and forward calls to your work phone.
- Write out exactly what you need to do and follow the list in order.
- Close out of your email platform to disable those pesky email pop-ups.
