Hearing officers should try and answer the following questions in a disciplinary case:
- Was the employee on notice that his or her conduct could lead to disciplinary action?
- Was the Company’s rule reasonable and necessary to the safe, orderly, and efficient operation of its business?
- Did the Company investigate the matter before imposing the disciplinary action and was the investigation conducted fairly?
- Was the Company’s rule applied consistently?
- Was the degree of discipline imposed an appropriate penalty?
