Tip Tuesday: Tips for Handling Grievances
October 01, 2019
Be proactive with contract compliance to avoid grievances from being filed, if possible.
Always review your CBA before making decisions and involve your HR or Labor Relations professionals.
Ensure that grievance investigations are thorough.
Less is more during grievance meetings.
Listening is important. Make sure to meet the response timelines in the CBA, but don’t feel rushed to make decisions on the spot.
Draft decisions denying a grievance carefully and do not include extraneous information.
Consider reasonable settlements which could resolve an issue and maintain good relationships without setting precedent.
